  • Overview of the session

The Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN) is in the process of publishing the ‘Third Assessment Report on Climate Change and Cities (ARC3.3). A chapter on the Circular Economy is being included in the report for the first time.

ARC3.3 will provide up-to-date benchmarked knowledge for urban climate change researchers, city practitioners, and policymakers at all levels of governance to motivate rapid action. ARC3.3 represents a collaborative effort with 200+ authors from cities in low, middle, and high-income countries around the world. ARC3.3 is peer-reviewed and includes city projections, new research, and urban policy recommendations. ARC3.3 will be published between 2023 to 2025 by Cambridge University Press.

  • Session objectives

The main aim of this session, the first stakeholder’s consultation, is to ensure that practitioners, in cities, and other professionals are provided with an opportunity to ‘co-develop’ the chapter.

    Specifically this session seeks to:

→ Introduce cities to UCCRN and ARC3.3.

→ Provide a summary of the current structure and the initial drafts developed by author teams.

→ Seek insights from city officials and other related professionals on the information presented, particularly with regards to the structure and relevance of the chapter being developed, based on key challenges and actions of the participants.

ARC3.3 Honeycomb Figure on Themes and Element Cross-Cutting Themes

Cities have emerged as leaders in both mitigation and adaptation to climate change, and there is a burgeoning interest in their role. A crucial need exists for synthesis of recent research in key areas in order to scale up and speed up the identification, implementation, and assessment of effective climate solutions and successful responses. Building on the First and Second Assessment Reports on Cities and Climate Change published by Cambridge University Press in 2011 and 2018, the UCCRN Third Assessment will be produced as a series of Special Reports on critical topics and key research gaps, by Cambridge University Press in their new Elements series.
