Webinar recap: Sustainable public procurement and reusable packaging systems (in portuguese)

  • 05 August 2025

About the event:

Sustainable public procurement plays a strategic role in promoting the circular economy, as it incorporates environmental and socioeconomic criteria into the procurement of goods and services. This model contributes to the creation of more sustainable production chains and presents an opportunity to boost reuse systems, which aim to reduce waste and promote the efficient use of resources.

This webinar aims to foster a discussion—taking into account the reality of Latin America—on how sustainable public procurement policies can support the implementation of reuse systems and reduce environmental impact in the region. Through the exchange of local experiences and challenges, the debate explores ways to implement these approaches, considering the specific characteristics and opportunities of the region.

The Circular City Labs – Testing Reusable Packaging Systems in Cities (CCL) project aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through waste prevention. To this end, it promotes the use of reusable containers and packaging systems, as well as strengthening the participation of women as entrepreneurs in circular economies. The partner cities selected for this initiative are Tirana (Albania), Tbilisi (Georgia), and Medellín (Colombia).

This project is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in collaboration with ICLEI on behalf of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is funded by the BMZ’s Climate and Environmental Protection Initiative (IKU).
