At the ICLEI World Congress 2024 in São Paulo, Brazil, a dedicated session addressed the critical challenge of moving towards zero waste through the circular economy. The second part of the session opened with an introduction to the Circular City Labs project, which aims to spur reusable packaging systems in Tirana, Albania, Tbilisi, Georgia and Medellin, Colombia. A lively Q&A followed with Ana Ligia Mora, Environment Secretary of Medellín, offering insights into her city’s waste management challenges and the opportunities around reuse. Mayor Aaron Brockett of Boulder, USA and Mayor Dongwhan Lee of Goyang Special City, Korea, delivered presentations on their cities’ concrete efforts to implement reuse systems, showcasing how local measures can drive global zero-waste goals.
