India's Manual on Municipal Solid Waste

This manual provides extensive guidance on municipal solid waste management, including a simple framework to help urban local bodies prepare a solid waste management plan, information about the Integrated Solid Waste Management Approach, successful examples from India and beyond, and discussion of emerging technologies and issues (e.g. climate change, role of the informal sector). The manual was developed through a participatory and iterative process involving national, state and municipal governments as well as non-governmental stakeholders working in the field of solid waste management.

The manual was created under the GIZ-Indo German Environment Partnership (IGEP) with the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD, Government of India) and the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organisation (CPHEEO).
