Urban NEXUS Case Story: Strengthening Inter-institutional Collaboration for Enhanced Resource Conservation

Faced with unsustainable exploitation of water resources in the Machángara River Basin in Ecuador, local entities worked together to create the Machángara Basin Council (MBC). The council seeks to facilitate sustainable resource use by improving coordination and communication across different municipal departments, private companies, local universities and research institutions, and smallholder farmers.

The Urban NEXUS project 2013-2014 was funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). ICLEI, as implementing partner of the Urban NEXUS project, is responsible for the content of this case story.
